“Chance to score” means the roll contains at least one scoring die or combination. It does not mean every die scores.

These figures assume fair, independent six-sided dice and use this site’s scoring chart. House rules can change the odds—especially on six dice, where rules for three pairs and a straight determine whether some rolls score.
Odds of rolling each scoring combination in Farkle
Choose the size of your next roll to see the chance that it contains each pattern from our scoring chart. “Contains” means at least that pattern appears, so one roll may qualify for more than one row.
How to read this: “Any three of a kind” includes rolls with four or more matching dice. Single-1 and single-5 chances include rolls containing multiples of those faces. These are pattern probabilities, not mutually exclusive outcomes, so the percentages should not be added together.
Why fewer dice are more dangerous
A single die scores only on a 1 or 5. Four of six faces are blank, so one die has a 4-in-6—or 66.67%—chance of a Farkle.
Extra dice create more ways to find a 1, a 5, or a combination. With three or more dice, triples rescue otherwise blank rolls. With all six, straights, three pairs, and other combinations lower the risk again.
Hot dice reset the risk. Rolling all six again means only a 2.31% Farkle chance, but every unbanked point remains exposed.
How it is calculated
For n fair dice, there are 6n equally likely ordered rolls. Count the rolls with no scoring die or combination, then divide by all possible rolls:
For three dice, 60 of 216 rolls have no 1, no 5, and no three-of-a-kind: 60 ÷ 216 = 27.78%.

Should you roll or bank?
The odds describe danger, not the entire decision. Your unbanked points, the score, and your opponents matter too. If you are still learning the turn sequence, start with our guide to how to play Farkle.
- One or two dice: bank more readily—the Farkle risk is 66.67% or 44.44%.
- Five or six dice: another roll is comparatively safe, especially from behind.
- Protect a large turn: even a small percentage can be costly with thousands at stake.
- Play the scoreboard: push harder when chasing; protect points when leading.
Important: points at risk is your full unbanked total, not a prediction of your roll’s value. Optimal play also depends on likely points and dice remaining after every scoring choice.

What is the probability of a Farkle with six dice?
Under the scoring rules used on this site, 1,080 of 46,656 possible six-dice rolls do not score. That is a 2.31% chance of a Farkle.
What is the probability of a Farkle with one die?
A single die scores only on a 1 or 5. Four of its six faces do not score, so the probability of a Farkle is 4 out of 6, or 66.67%.
How likely is a Farkle with five dice?
There are 600 non-scoring results among 7,776 possible five-dice rolls, so the probability of a Farkle is 7.72%.
Do unbanked points change the probability of a Farkle?
No. The number of unbanked points changes how much you could lose, but it does not change the dice probability. The number of dice rolled and the scoring rules determine the chance of a Farkle.
Do house rules change Farkle probabilities?
Yes. Rules that add or remove scoring combinations can change the odds. The six-dice probability is especially sensitive to whether a straight and three pairs score.
